Speakeasy Broadband Review

We are fortunate to be in an area where DSL is available. We signed up with Speakeasy www.speakeasy.net in 2000. It's been a great experience.

We rarely experience downtime. Customer service is prompt, courteous and efficient. Almost every issue was resolved with one short phone call.

Speakeasy has a variety of plans.  They offer AmikaGuardian anti spam and anti virus protection. We turned the anti spam off because too many of our incoming client emails  and incoming lists were labeled as Spam. Filters are difficult to tweak properly. For the most part, our emails come in through our domain, not our ISP so we are using Spamassassin on our domain hosts.

The anti-virus works very well. They notify you when an incoming message has been quarantined. Of course we run client based anti virus packages. However, the email virii almost never get to us.

Tips

  • We set up the XP machine near the modem with an alternate network configuration for Speakeasy. Often the help desk will ask you to connect directly to the modem. By setting the alternate configuration, it is simply a matter of switching the cables. Once we plug back into the router and reboot, the regular DHCP configuration takes effect.
