Targus Chill Mat for your laptop

If you have a laptop, especially one that runs hot, you might want to consider the Chill Mat from Targus. The unit is less than $30. It is a mat that fits under your laptop. Power to the dual fans is supplied by your laptop’s USB port. The fans suck downward. The resulting draft keeps your laptop running at a much lower temperature. This in turn, prevents lockups due to overheating and will extend the life of your computer.

If you are running on battery power, the chill mat will, of course, cause your battery to deplete more quickly.

It only weighs 15 oz. and provides an air flow of 28 CFM. Current pricing is around $30.

Another advantage to the chill mat is that it prevents you from having a hot laptop in your lap.

Update - Targus has recently released their ChillHub which combines the cooling function with a 4 port USB hub. The cost is about $10 more per unit over the original ChillMat.

Note - Don't confuse the chill mat with the chill pad. You will want the powered pad for best results. Some devices simply allow space for air circulation.
