PalmOne Zire 31

Aug 2005

The PalmOne Zire 31 is a low end color PDA. It's light, the screen is excellent and it has the power we need.  It comes with 16 Megabytes of  Memory, a 200Mhz Intel processor, 160 x 160 Color display,

The connection is via a mini Usb Connector. The Grafitti alphabet has been improved somewhat. You have the option to beam information to compatible devices. If you add a 3.5 MM Headphone, you can listen to MP3s (If you download the appropriate software such as Realplayer). The unit has a rechargeable battery.

We liked the ability to add photos to the photo album. The process is straightforward. There is a notepad that will let you scribble notes in a bitmapped format. The rubber cover took a little getting used to. This model includes the ability to lock the keys to prevent accidental clicks.

Tips

  •  If you are synchronizing with Outlook, be sure to back up your PST file prior to synchronizing with your new handheld. There isn't any particular problem but it is always best to have a backup.

  • Consider purchasing a 12 volt adapter if you are on the road a lot. You don't want to be in a situation where you need your information and the battery is low.

  • The Palm does not come with an inbox utility. We purchased Beyond Contacts to manage our inbox and contacts. Our contacts are organized in multiple folders and the included software does not handle that very well.

  • Belkin makes a replacement stylus with a mini light that fits the stylus holder somewhat. The stylus light goes for about $10. It's a handy little gadget.
